About Us

Electrum Resource Corporation was founded by John J. Barakso in 1983.

John has over 60 years of experience in mineral exploration in British Columbia.

John worked for Kennco Explorations (Western) Ltd. from 1960-1969, travelling and consulting extensively throughout British Columbia and internationally. During his tenure with Kennco, he was discoverer or co-discoverer of the following deposits: Equity Silver Mine, Kemess North Mine, Kemess South Mine, Huckleberry Mine and Alice Arm Molybdenum (formerly B.C. Molybdenum Mines).

John was Chief Geochemist of Anaconda American Brass Ltd. from 1969-1972 before starting Mineral Environments Laboratories Ltd, which he operated in Vancouver until 1989.

Concurrent with running the laboratory, John founded and operated Barakso Consultants Ltd., which consulted for several junior and major companies internationally, and founded Electrum Resource Corporation, devoting much of his time to mineral exploration in British Columbia.

John formed Finlay Minerals Ltd. in 1999 alongside Robert Brown and James Tutton, providing the company with the majority of the mineral tenure assets that Finlay holds today.

Since founding Electrum, John has completed major option or purchase agreements with various BC mineral exploration and mining firms including Finlay Minerals, Copper Mountain Mining, AMARC, Quartz Mountain Resources and New Gold Inc.
